Climbing Bean Variety Test Garden
The Door County Seed Library is co-sponsoring a field test of climbing bean varieties in a traditional Three Sisters garden setting (Corn, beans, & squash) in cooperation with Frank Kutka, Sustainable Agricultural Faculty, College of Menominee Nation. We are grateful to Cathy Grier for offering space in her garden for this community project.
The corn we are growing is a mix of Rhode Island White, Canada, and Longfellow, all classic, full season flint varieties from New England.
The bean varieties planted alongside the corn include:
- Lazy Housewife
- Hutterite Soup
- Hidatsa Shield Figure
- Amish Knuttle
- Dolloff
- Iroquois
- Good Mother Stallard
- Black Turtle
- Bantu Mix
- Mostoller’s Wild Goose
The garden is located on Oregon Street in Sturgeon Bay across from Martin Park. Learn more about Three Sisters gardens here.
